About

Nick Winton

Nick is the son of Sir Nicholas Winton MBE, who organized the Kindertransport from Czechoslovakia before the Second World War saving 669 children. Awarded a knighthood for his services to humanity, his father was also involved in many other humanitarian activities including for the Mentally Handicapped and the elderly in care.

Nick’s own story is one of resilience and leadership. After pioneering a new technology and successful sale of his business, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. This transformative experience deepened his understanding of life’s unpredictability and the importance of coping with uncertainty. After surgery and with a five-year prognosis, he graduated with honours from Imperial College Business School with a MBA.

With a short lifespan in prospect his next career was as Interim CEO or Managing Director. In this role he guided many companies through tough transitions in both the public and private sectors in London and New York. In this he experienced the highs and the lows of motivating and managing teams that were usually under great stress.

Subsequently he is advising boards of directors and acting as trustee of Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, an award- winning charity in the family hometown of Maidenhead.

He now speaks internationally on ‘The Power of One’ before audiences ranging from 15 to 15,000 as the Kindertransport rescue mission has become a metaphor for what one man can accomplish.

Nick presents on several themes that are critical to businesses today including:

    • The value of working as a team to accomplish great things
    • Recognising artificial barriers and overcoming them
    • The value of every individual and the benefits of being ‘blind’ to colour, race, religion, gender
    • Ethics – the bedrock of company growth, particularly with major inter-company transaction

Using his father’s story as a starting point, your audience will learn what a great impact they can make in your organization and in the world. Nick adapts the presentations with consultation to deliver the impact most suitable for your audience with images and videos from the family archive.

Nick’s interests include current affairs, economics, opera (particularly Mozart), mime, beautiful architecture, and walking in gardens and parks.

He was trained in aerobatics by the RAF and held a private pilot’s license. As an escape, Nick enjoys travelling around Europe by motorbike.

He married his wife Dominique at a ceremony in Prague, Czech Republic, the starting point for the Kindertransport organized by his father, Sir Nicholas.
